Private Investigator Training

Our training courses will prepare you for the role of private investigator and will enable you to apply for SIA registration once this is enacted by the government in the next few months. These courses are priced separately but please see the package price for 3 courses, which offers a significant discount over the cost of the individual courses.

Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators

The SIA have indicated that this will be the standard qualification for registration as a Private Investigator. The Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators (QCF) focuses on:

  • How to research information from various sources
  • Gather information through interviews
  • Have an overview of surveillance operations, both overt and covert
  • Gathering information in support of an investigation
  • Planning and reporting investigations. This includes identifying the objectives of the investigation, dealing with conflicts of interest and how to report and present the findings on the investigation

The qualification also deals with maintaining the security and confidentiality of all information during the investigation. Throughout, there is also the requirement of knowing and complying with the laws and regulations relevant to carrying out investigations.

This qualification is based on the SIA Specification for Learning and Qualifications for Private Investigators and Pre-Cognition activities.

We can support you through this qualification in four different ways.

Option 1 - A 5 Day course covering all of the learning outcomes culminating in an externally set and marked examination.

Option 2 - Distance learning course enabling you to study at your own pace. Supported throughout by an experienced investigator to give advice and assess your work. Once complete there is a 1 day consolidation course booked at your convenience culminating in an externally set and marked examination.

Price £449 + vat

Option 3 - For experienced investigators. This includes an interview to allow our assessor to accredit your prior experience. This is followed by a 1 day revision course where any gaps in your experience can be addressed followed by an externally set and marked examination.

Price £249 + vat

Option 4 - For experienced investigators. This includes an interview to allow our assessor to accredit your prior experience followed by an externally set and marked examination without any further training.

All prices include registration and certification fees with the awarding body.

Covert Surveillance - Entry Level

This course is aimed at investigators who wish to gain an insight into covert surveillance planning, procedures and practice. Taken by experienced trainers with extensive police and / or military surveillance experience this course will cover static, foot and mobile surveillance tactics including assessing risk and log keeping. Lasting 4 days this course is run over 2 consecutive weekends and will include practical exercises.

Open Source Intelligence

A 1 day course for investigators who need to gather information and intelligence from the internet. This course shows how to interrogate open areas of the internet to discover information about individuals or companies. Subjects covered will include interrogating emails, internet sites, social media, blogs, telephone numbers addresses and company and business information.

Course Location

These courses will be run from state of the art training facilities with excellent transport connections on the outskirts of Ipswich, Suffolk. Courses are non residential but there are 2 reasonably priced hotels within walking distance of the venue. Special rates may be negotiable so please ask if you are considering booking a room. There is ample free parking at the venue.

If your company is interested in running any of these courses at your own premises we may be able to offer a discount on delegate rates, subject to sufficient delegates registering.

In the case of the Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators you would need to allow access to a room that complies with examination rules and this would need to be pre-authorised.

  • Cumbria

    A vital link in the west of the county and connects Barrow-in-Furness to Carlisle is the Cumbrian Coast Line. Windermere Branch Line, most of the Furness Line and much of the Settle-Carlisle Railway are other railways in Cumbria. With some services running to neighbouring areas such as Lancaster, several bus companies run services in Cumbria serving the main towns and villages in the county.     The only other major urban area is Barrow-in-Furness on the southwestern tip of the county is Carlisle, Cumbria's county town in the north of the county. With textiles, pencils and biscuits among the products manufactured in the region, Kendal, Keswick and Carlisle all became mill town.     One of the UK's newest universities having been established in 2007, the only university in Cumbria at present and has campuses across the county together with Lancaster and London is the University of Cumbria. With Barrow being one of the best supported non-league football teams in England, Barrow and Workington A.F.C.-who are always known locally as "the reds"-are well-supported non-league teams, having been relegated from the Football League in the 1970s.

  • Searching For Cumbria Sights

    One of the country's largest shipbuilding centres operated by Associated British Ports alongside the Port of Silloth in Allerdale, but the Port of Barrow is only minor, is Barrow-in-Furness. The only professional football team in Cumbria and currently play in League Two (4th Tier in the English football pyramid) are Carlisle United. Carlisle play in the Rugby League Conference and Barrow, Whitehaven and Workington in the RL National Leagues.

    Although more recent discoveries near Galloway appear to contradict this, Cumbria was previously believed to have formed the core of the Early Middle Ages Brittonic kingdom of Rheged. Located at the Lakeland Circuit, Rowrah, between Cockermouth and Egremont is Cumbria Kart Racing Club.
